VISION

Choosing Prescription Sunglasses

Choosing prescription sunglasses should not compromise the quality of your vision. VALLON now offers a range of Prescription sunglasses, designed with Rx performance lenses.

We work closely with a local optician within cycling distance of our head office in Amsterdam to fit our Rx eyewear with high quality prescription lenses from world-leading manufacturer, Essilor. The lenses are precision cut to fit our unique VALLON frames, and each pair of Rx sunglasses is checked by hand before being shipped to the customer.

TECHNOLOGY

Our Prescription Lenses

Essilor’s proprietary Crizal® technology features double-sided anti-reflective UV395 protection (100% UV protection), anti-scratch, and hydro-oleophobic coatings to shield from abrasion, dirt, and water. With an ABBE value of 41, they offer superior clarity for prescription lenses that can be used everyday, or during sports activities.

PERFORMANCE

Prescription Sunglasses for Sport

For people who wear prescription glasses every day, sports prescription sunglasses are often the favored alternative when out playing sports, or undertaking outdoor activities in the sun. As well as keeping your vision clear, they also provide UV protection, and shield your eyes from glare, dust and wind. High quality sports Rx lenses are important for optical acuity, as well as long term durability and resistance.

FILTERS

Polarized Prescription Sunglasses

We offer the same selection of polarized or non-polarized lenses across our Rx (prescription), and non-Rx products. Each lens type is carefully selected for each eyewear model based on the activity or sport they are designed for.

Polarization filters are ideal for sunglasses used for watersports, or activities that take place on or near water as they help to reduce glare and provide contrast enhancement. However, polarization is not helpful in glacial or snowy environments as it makes it harder to safely differentiate between the layers of snow and ice. For polar or glacial conditions, we recommend non-polarized lenses.

PROTECTION

Cat. 3 vs Cat. 4 Prescription Lenses

There are four categories (‘Cat.’) of eye protection for both sunglasses and ski/snow goggles. This applies to both Rx and non-Rx products designed to be worn in the sun.

Cat 4. offers the greatest eye protection in regions with high sun exposure. For example, mountaineers at high altitude wear Cat. 4 eyewear to shield their eyes from UV exposure, excessive glare, and sun reflections off snow and ice.

Cat. 3 is the next level down, and the most popular category for performance eyewear. Cat. 3 offers protection from bright sunlight, but because the lenses are less dark, they are also more versatile day-to-day.
