Cleaning Sunglasses & Ski Goggle Lenses
To keep your sunglasses and ski goggle lenses clean, oil-free and scratch-free, we recommend using a microfiber cleaning cloth. (Using a t-shirt, towel, or paper towel can be harsh on the lens).
Grip the temples and gently wipe in a circular motion until the lenses appear clear again. If they remain oily, it might be time for a new cleaning cloth.
We suggest that you avoid using lens cleaners - particularly on lenses with a mirror coating - as the chemicals in them may do more damage than good in the long run!
Looking After Anti-Fog Coatings
If your sunglasses or ski goggles have an anti-fog coating, this will be on the inside of the lens. Anti-fog coatings are particularly easy to damage if you use a cloth or lens cleaner that is too abrasive.
To clean anti-fog coatings, we advise to rinse only with cold water, and gently wipe dry with a clean microfibre cloth .
Looking After Lens Coatings
If you are using your sunglasses by the pool or sea and they come into contact with suncream or salt water, we recommend that you rinse your sunglasses under clean cold tap water for a few minutes to remove any residues before wiping dry.
Similarly, for ski and snow goggles you should avoid getting any oil, grease or sun cream on the lenses where possible. Over time these residues can become abrasive on lens coatings, so it’s important to wash them off before storing your eyewear.
Common Causes of Damage to Lenses
The most common damage to lenses happens when they are dropped, or stored face-down. If you are likely to drop your sunglasses, we recommend using a sports headstrap or sport retainer. When not in use, store your sunglasses in a microfiber pouch, travel case, or hardcase to keep them protected.
The same goes for ski and snow goggles. When not in use, store them safely in a microfiber pouch, or use a goggle cover to keep them safe from scratches and other damage.
Harsh chemical residues can also cause damage to lenses over time - including sun cream and other oil-based products.
Caring for Herons Side Shield Leather
If the leather side shields on your Heron sunglasses become dirty or greasy, we advise that you use a soft cloth soaked with a small amount of room temperature water, and wipe the leathers gently in a circular motion. Wipe away any excess water, and leave to air dry.
The centre nosepiece of the Heron collection can also be removed and cleaned separately.
